Health Occupations - open to third and fourth year students.

This class is an introduction to the field of health, identifies its many occupations, and considers the complex legal and ethical aspects of health care. Also covered in the first semester are anatomy, physiology, as well as medical terminology that is emphasized throughout the year. During the second semester basic patient care tasks are taught including first aid and CPR, blood borne pathogens, blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respirations.

In the second semester students have the opportunity to job shadow at a hospital, doctors office, and or/clinic. To be eligible for 2nd semester placement, students must successfully complete the first semester's class instruction and will need a TB test, health exam, and criminal background check prior to placement.

In this class, students may also gain 1/2 credit of health toward their diploma. In addition, while in high school, students may earn college credits at Washtenaw Community College or to other colleges via articulation agreements with these schools. With instructor's permission, students may elect this class for a second year.
