Zero Tolerance Policy:
Drugs - Weapons - Dress Code
The Ypsilanti Public Schools Board of Education complies with the Drug-Free Workplace Act and Weapons-Free Schools law, and as such, hereby gives notice that students must comply with the Board adopted Code of Conduct and that the use, possession, distribution and/or sale of drugs and other illegal substances is prohibited on the grounds, transportation vehicles and in the buildings of the Ypsilanti Public Schools.
The possession of a weapon on school property or threats of harm are also prohibited. This includes school buses. Students found to be in violation of these rules subject themselves to disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from Ypsilanti schools and other Michigan public schools. Further, students and parents should be aware that all district rules contained in the Student Code of Conduct apply enroute to and from school, during school and all schoolrelated functions.
The school district has a dress code in place and there will be a renewed emphasis this school year for all students to adhere consistently to the guidelines set forth in the district's' Student Code of Conduct. Clothing worn by students that is unacceptable during the school day includes sagging or baggy jeans or pants, tank tops, midriff tops, mini-skirts, tops with spaghetti string straps, and/or any type of head covering unless it has been approved for religious reasons. A copy of the Student Code of Conduct will be distributed at the start of the school year and parents will be asked to read, sign and return the form in the front of the booklet indicating that it has been read and the anticipated consequences understood.
